Carimate chair black with rush seat

Vico Magistretti designed the red Carimate chair in 1959 as part of the furnishings for the golf club in Carimate, Lombardy. The chair, with a frame of beech wood, was produced for a long time for various brands such as DePadova, Cassina, Habitat, Stendig Finland and Fritz Hansen. The very first of the Carimate chairs were produced by the local chair makers Mario and Luigi Como from Meda, Italy

When Magistretti designed the Carimate chair he partly inspired it on Scandinavian tradition combined with the Italian tradition of a wood and rush/straw chair. The open frame structure together with the bright red color gives the Carimate chair a strong expression. The boxy frame with curved armrests and distinct detail of the thickening in the joints of the legs, where the frame meets the seat, add a to the clear appeal of the chair. However, the Carimate chair became available in various colors from black, blue, yellow, green and of course in red.

These black Carimate chairs are finished in RAL 9005 semi-gloss finish. The handmade seat weaving is an out new fresh rush, that will age over time. The Carimate chair has a seating height of 45 cm.
